Northern Nuggets and Southern Sage
Archbishop Sylvain Lavoie, OMI
The occasion of his 25th anniversary to the priesthood prompted Sylvain Lavoie, OMI, now Archbishop of Keewatin-The Pas, to try his hand at writing. As a result, Northern Nuggets was published in 1999, a collection of personal stories drawn from his fifteen years of ministry as a Missionary Oblate priest in northern Saskatchewan. Since then Sylvain’s ministry has taken him to more southern parts of Saskatchewan, and now as Archbishop he serves the First Nations people of northern Manitoba and Ontario. Northern Nuggets and Southern Sage is a reprint of the original booklet plus additional stories from ministry “in the south”.
“These are stories of inspiration, of realism, of faith meeting life. It is my hope that reading these may help someone else on their own journey of faith, as well as inspire especially aboriginal youth, to consider a life of committed service in the Church as a priest, religious or dedicated lay person.”
